CONDUCTING

Toby is active as a choral conductor.  He is particularly interested in contemporary choral repertoire, and music for upper voices. He currently leads the Jersey College for Girls Chamber Choir, and also conducts Cambiata and Voce Victoria.  His work with these choirs has included a highly successful tour to compete in the Midsomerset Music Festival, choral workshops at Sherborne Girls, and the Jersey Festival of Remembrance and Praise.

In October 2014, Toby set up Contempo, a mixed voice ensemble specialising in 21st century repertoire.  Contempo's first event was the popular Jersey Christmas Light Switch On, closely followed by a sold-out Christmas Concert at the National Trust's Georgian House in December 2014 (including the premiere of a new carol by Toby). In 2015, the choir is excited to be headlining the first of The National Trust for Jersey's Sunset Concerts. Click here to find out more. Toby previously founded and conducted STAcapella, a new vocal ensemble based in Oxford.

Whilst at Oxford University,  he musically directed both the largest-ever student production (The Producers at the Oxford Playhouse), and the fastest-selling (A Theory of Justice: The Musical!), for which he also co-wrote the music. He has musically directed a range of other productions, including The Last 5 YearsHow To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying and Aladdin. He is currently working for renowned West End composer Stuart Brayson (From Here To Eternity) on a number of arranging projects, and regularly arranges for a number of vocal ensembles.
